Northwest Arkansas

Goodmorning Jordan cousins. Here is a map of northwest Arkansas and the eastern edge of Oklahoma where the Jordan family lived between the 1860s and the 1930s. William Andrew Jordan (1869-1960) was born in Rheas Mill, AR, married in Siloam Springs, AR, and died in Stillwell, OK.

His wife Ida Mae Scism (1873-1934) was born in Bloomfield, MO, gave birth to their eleven children around Lincoln, AR, and died in Skiatook, OK. Several of their children were married in Fayetteville, AR.

The census of 1930 shows most of the Jordan children in the general area, except Clara who was already in Roseville, CA with her husband Jay Choate and their two children.

Effie was in Morris, OK with her husband James Helms and their four children. Emery was in Morris, OK with his wife Jennie Eagleton and their five children. Venson was in Oakland, Ca with his wife Annette Greves and their son. Nancy was in Stillwell, OK with her husband Henry Eagleton, and their four children. Julie was in McPherson, KS with her husband Moton Tinney and their two children. Bailey was in Waukillau, OK with his wife Rainey Jones. Eugene had died in 1929. Gladys was in Tulsa, OK with her first husband Bert Cook. Christine was 16 and still at home. Dee was 14 and still at home.

Jordan Family in 1918

Hello again all you Jordans. Here is a photo most likely taken in the fall of 1918. It shows William Andrew (Andy) Jordan (49) and Ida Mae Scism Jordan (45) (seated) with most of their children. Starting in the back and working from left to right are: Julie (14), Nancy (16), Clara (24), Effie (23) Effie's son Paul (6mos?), Effie's husband James Helms (27), and Effie's daughter Nellie (2).
Then standing between the parents are Bailey (11), Gladys (7), and Eugene (9). On Andy's lap is his daughter Christine (4), and on Ida's lap is Dee (3). Standing in the front is Effie's oldest child Bessie (4). Two of the sons missed the photograph. They are Emery (22) and Venson (20).

Let's Have a Party!

This blog was started to co-ordinate the planning of a 100th birthday party for Gladys Marie Jordan and a Jordan Family Reunion in May of 2011. I hope it continues to provide a place for the descendants of Ida Mae Scism and William Andrew Jordan of Arkansas to exchange information and make connections.

The photo above shows a Jordan family reunion from about 1945. In it are seven of Ida and Andy's children: Clara (1894), Effie (1895), Venson (1897), Nancy (1902), Julie (1904), Gladys (1911), and Christine (1914).
